The piece that I have created here for the Margate poster meets the needs with the visual communication and message of the brief by showing a little of Margate with the image, I used an image that made the text stand out to be the main part of the poster, which is what the brief asked me to do, being typographic, and together with the image and the text I think that they poster inspires people to look beyond the current Margate and look behind it, seeing the art and beauty it could potentially have. The way in which the poster may not meet the brief is that I included quite a big image, the brief says (mainly) typographic. Although I have used about the same amount of text space for the image, I think that they way I have placed and made some parts bold and some regular, it works and so I think I have turned this negative part of me not meeting it perfectly into a positive. The strengths of the visual communication in my poster is the text, I think that the combination of regular and bold and also the text being offset on opposite sides of the page, I think is a strength because its slightly different to what I have done before for a poster and it catches your eye because of the text. The only weakness I can see on my poster with the visual communication is the way that the image is pixelated, I made the mistake of taking this image on my phone and it wasn't until I printed it as experiment that I realised. It has made me rethink my idea all over again and I didn't know what to do, so as a resolution I broight the image over to Photoshop and tried a way of changing the image so that the pixelation wasn't so obvious. The audience for this poster could be anyone. The market for seaside fun is to anyone over the country, this particular poster would be for people in the south of the country, seeing and watching the news, of how closed down Margate has been, so news that has been shown recently with they up coming Margate - the Turner Contemporary Gallery being part of the new Margate, this poster would show that it is being built up. The way that this may be mis-read or mis-understood might be that it could be just about the beach. To improve or develop this poster a little further I could go back to Margate and take more images, hopefully on a more sunny and happier day, that would reflect the words that I have chosen to use a little more.
My time keeping for this task I think that I managed well. With other things and projects to think about, I think that I made myself enough time and space to create the poster and also the other ideas that I came up with along the way. My research that I did for this project was enough for me to get where I needed to be, After seeing the exhibition by Hamish Fulton, I think that this was good to see how type could be used as the main part of a piece, even though the text was a plain serif font, it managed to create something great. Although we were not allowed to take images in the exhibition, I found some online of Fulton's work and analyzed these. I also took a few photos of the parts of Margate that people can relate to well. Drawing conclusions from my research I did with the text, I tried to make my poster with the same sort of guidelines, plain font and just making that the focal point of the piece, which I think I have done here. My experimentation through out this project was just playing around with the text and images that I wanted to change. I made around 8 versions, seeing where the text and images were best put, looking to see what would be more effective for the audience. The part of this project that I enjoyed the most was the designing of the poster ideas. This is what I came here to do and like this the best in any project, the inspiration from artists is what makes me want to do this, this is when I work best too, I feel like I concentrate a lot more, because my head in is something I like doing. Seeing the Hamish Fulton exhibition at the Turner Contemporary is what inspired me to make the poster the way I did.
